Personality: One might never guess interacting with her just how hard a life Antoinette has led. Then again she’d deny that herself if asked. Antoinette is a fairly relaxed and friendly soul. Happy to hold a conversation, or entertain someone’s asks provided there’s nothing pressing she needs to get to. As a Princess of the Dominion, it is only just and right that she listens to the needs and concerns of the people, that she comports herself as an example of everything an Asuryan should want to be.
She is still a warrior at her core, with a deep love and enjoyment of battle and combat. The thrill of the fight is greater than any drink or food could provide, (even if they can be quite fun at the right time and place), and there’s no fight better than one between allies keeping each other sharp and friendly.
History:
The Asuryans are an old species, extremely old, but one that has been mostly forgotten by the galaxy at large. They once had a tremendous, expansive empire, that covered hundreds of thousands of star systems, millions even. Yet, in truth is that really all that impressive? The aeons are littered with the remains of once great empires that had at one time boasted extreme influence, size, resources, and power. It is an inevitable truth of history that eventually everything falls. So, really the only remarkable thing about the Asuryans, is that they’re still around at all. It’s not uncommon for the collapse of great empires to see their founding species wiped out entirely.
One could be forgiven for thinking they had been wiped out though, if one even knew about their empire. Asuryale, their homeworld, is nothing but a desert ruin. Set in a star system with three suns, the surface of Asuryale is completely inhospitable, a scorched desert with not even ruins visible anywhere on its surface. It’s within PTO territory, and even the PTO have no interest in it. The planet simply marked for some distant, deep Core survey to see if there’s any value in a mining operation. Given the inhospitable atmosphere though, it’s a low priority given the difficulty in establishing a stable mining outpost. Not when there are much easier worlds to exploit at least.
However, beneath the surface of Asuryale’s scorched wastelands exists a people who have remained trapped beneath the surface of their world for thousands of years. The remnants of the once proud Galactic Dominion. Asuryale is a planet that has massive caverns and intricate networks going all the way to the planet’s core, and nearly every inch of it has long been explored, settled and exploited. A rather magical species, the Asuryans keep their home inhabitable through careful ecological cultivation and elemental magic to shore up the holes and weaknesses. Living without sunlight and with limited ability to survey anything beyond their world.
It was into this world that Antoinette Rakedi and her brother were born, the twin children of the reigning King Nicholas. This was their world for nearly 2,000 years. Their father was often known as the “Mad King” and was paranoid and terrified of losing the slightest grip on the people. To Antoinette it seemed justified, as it seemed Asuryale was constantly on the brink of rebellion, revolt or open civil war. Antoinette’s young life was spent with a group of six bodyguards around her, decorated and capable. Her life afterwards was spent embroiled in convoluted, intricate nobility politics and quashing rebellion and revolt and conspiracy.
She lived always aware of the stars up above, far above the scorched stone that imprisoned them and protected them from the harsh suns of their home system. Yet, there was always an excuse, a reason that even attempting to prepare could not happen, always a new conspiracy, a new rebellion, or some other, esoteric disaster. This went on for centuries, until her brother, Falasius Rakedi, started to piece something together. The real conspiracy behind it all. One that in retrospect was obvious, and had been to many, many people, but when one stands right within it, is harder to spot. King Nicholas had been arranging and instigating these revolts and rebellions, deliberately giving them the power and means to threaten, so as to insure a constant conflict to keep the Asuryans trapped on their world. Their father was convinced that if they spread from their world, he would lose his grasp of the people, and he would lose his power.
Realizing that Falasius was piecing things together, Nicholas hatched a scheme to try and stop the coming revolt of his children. Antoinette had by this point acquired a handmaiden, someone closer to her than the companions that had practically raised her from birth. A young woman named Elena, talented and capable she’d filled the role of Antoinette’s bodyguard for several years at this point and the two were clearly closer than was expected of servant and master. Nicholas hatched a plan to have Elena killed, and the blame placed upon Falasius.
A terrible scheme that could have caused untold harm if it worked. Falasius desperately reached out to the six former bodyguards of Antoinette, who now served with her as the Seven Companions. It was the intervention of these six that helped save Elena, and keep Antoinette from being pitted against her brother. In the aftermath, he was able to reveal to her what had been happening, and open Antoinette’s eyes to the tyranny they had both been aiding and supporting unwittingly over their lives.
Civil war came to Asuryale, a real one, spurred on by true revolt against their father. A brutal and terrible war that lasted nearly two hundred years in and of itself. Until finally, the Mad King Nicholas was defeated, killed by Antoinette’s own blade. With that, the tyranny of Nicholas ended, and a new era could begin as Falasius was crowned the new monarch of the Dominion of Asuryale.
Antoinette was by her brother’s side, and as the fleet was prepared, was anointed the Admiral of the Restored Armada. With great celebration and anticipation, Antoinette departed at the head a grand fleet, representing their first great effort to go back into the stars, and begin establishing a new interplanetary empire. Heading into the stars, this effort has already begun, with Antoinette doing her best to see this new future be prosperous, but the Asuryans head into a galaxy of conflict, and strange tyrannical rulers to put even their father to shame, and there is no telling how well this will go.
