You FINALLY reach what appears to be the top of the tower, but as you pull yourself up and into safety you find yourself face-to-face with a large, white cat who introduces himself as Korin. THIS is Korin?! “You’ve made it this far, so I guess you want the Sacred Water of Power? Well it’s yours…if you can take it off of me.” despite your exhaustion your training starts right now! “Oh, did I forget to mention it took Roshi 3 years to get this from me? Good luck kid!”
“So Roshi has sent me another of his ones, eh? Last I checked the world was falling apart and yet you’ve had the courage to come and find me, to climb the tower and reach its apex… you don’t think that perhaps you ought to be down there, trying to stop whatever’s coming?”
The feline had a direct way of speaking, sugar coating very little and yet the woman couldn’t take offence to what Korin was saying to her, she’d had the thoughts herself after all; she knew she ought to be down there doing what she could but that was exactly the rub really, she couldn’t do much at all against the super powered foes that were arrayed before them. Sipping the tea that the feline had made for her she felt more at peace than she had done since awakening from the tube she had been grown and nurtured in by the men and women of Denki corp… yes, with the wind singing and the endless vista of a sea of clouds around her it was hard to take offence to what was being said to her.
“I should, I tried… I was of limited use. I suppose that’s why I took Roshi’s advice and came in search of you; he’s told me about the water, the strength it can grant… and what it and the Paradise herb mean in concert. I know I am of little use as I am and that means I’m obligated to find a way to make myself useful… I can think of worse fates than a long life in service to the people of this planet, sir.” Taking another sip of the tea the woman relaxed fully, the cat watching her with discerning interest. “There’s things going on that I can’t be of help with and I need to address that… Alexander fights the pink thing and terrifying as that encounter was I don’t think either can claim victory over the other; the sorcerer and his get need dealing with, but the General alone can’t handle them both. He needs help but he’s not the sort to admit it, you know what I mean?”
Korin chuckled softly and headed over to one of their cabinets, taking a gourd from a shelf with the end of their staff. “He never was one to share the burden, always and ever did he try to bear the weight alone… and you would offer yourself to that burden as well, to lighten his?” The cat watched as the woman did him the decency of thinking about it before inclining her head in agreement; she wasn’t coming into this without good thought, she wasn’t unaware of the price there was to pay, the tithe for the power she would claim. “Then I will honor your request… should you wish the power of the sacred water then all you need to do is claim it from me.” Turning around the feline wiggled the end of the staff in front of the woman’s face as she sipped her tea, the gourd bouncing up and down before her as she tried to ignore it. “Of course it took Roshi three years to seize it from me… I trust you’ll manage it faster if you want there to still be a world for you to save in the process.” The woman finished her tea and gently set the clay mug aside before slowly standing up, brushing herself down.
“As you wish…” The woman suddenly surged forwards, lashing out towards the staff and the gourd attached to it only for the object to skim past her fingertips as she made the motion; Korin was undeniably fast and inconceivably agile… but so was she, it was her focus and forte after all. Chasing the feline across the wide floor they were on in this platform the woman leapt, slamming a foot against one of the pillars before springing onto the roof, kicking off of it at an angle to slide past the feline and make another attempt. The cat was ready for her but the columns were plentiful enough for the woman to continue, the white haired sage laughing faintly as the woman’s lunges came from all available angles. There was something about her that was determined for certain, but she didn’t seem to be willing to give up or stop her assault… and so it was somewhat jarring when the cat hopped backwards off of the tower, a nimbus rushing to support them only for the woman to come to a halt at the railing instead of pursuing him further.
“What’s the matter? The boy was able to chase me down through the air and most who come here know how to fly… unless….” Korin looked perplexed for a moment before realisation dawned. “You don’t know how to use your energy for flight, do you young one? No, I didn’t think so… well then… let’s put the water aside for a moment then.” Returning to the ledge the feline hopped onto the stone beside her and tapped her on the forehead with his staff, marveling at the way she didn’t make a grab for the gourd despite how easy he was making it for her in that moment. “Not even an attempt… you’re not just here for power are you?”
“No… I’m here to learn; Roshi taught me much, a lot about myself as well. It would be a waste to just seize power and discard such lessons… besides, power unearned won’t help me against these enemies will it? I need to be able to use it, to control it… I can’t do that if I just take the prize and chug it, can I?”
Korin smiled broadly at what he was hearing, moving towards the centre of the platform and indicating that she should follow along. “Then a student of my teachings you will be… we’ll set aside times each day where the water won’t be important, where we can discuss and discover the answers you seek. Firstly though… we’re going to teach you to disregard the call of gravity, I’m certain with agility like yours, like mine, you can achieve wonderful things with such a trick.”
