Level 3 1,000 That wasn’t so hard, was it? Now for lesson thre- Oh, wait, what's this? There's a bad storm blowing in and it's created a tsunami? That will wreck my house! For lesson three we're going to stop that tidal wave with the Turtle school signature technique!
“Well this isn’t good, not good at all!” Arley blinked muzzily as she pulled her head off of the coffee table, peeling her cheek off of it as the scent of stale beer assailed her senses; it was going to take her mind some time to work its way through the obligatory checks that needed to happen upon awakening. She was in Kame house, that much was apparent, yet she had only vague memories of the previous evening, that was a bad thing; she was fully clothed, insofar as she could remember being at least… a tank top and sports shorts, which implied that either Roshi hadn’t tried anything or that he was amazingly good at covering his tracks. Sitting up the woman immediately clamped her right hand over her eyes and groaned weakly… why had she drunk so much? The old man had been matching her tin for tin and he was on his feet and happy as a lark… how the hell did he do it, how was that even fair? Turning on his heels Roshi bustled over, hoisting her to her feet and spurring her towards the kitchen sink. “Go, go, stick your head under the tap until you wake up! This is important Arley, this is bad, very bad!” There was an edge to his voice that had her worried somewhat, yet she was still not entirely with the programe, something quickly rectified when her head was shoved into the sink and icy water began to flow; she had to hand it to Roshi, he had a surprising amount of strength behind him being able to hold her in place as she tried to get away from the sudden deluge of icy water. Given a minute or so he finally released the woman and she staggered back, coughing and spluttering before shaking her head, spraying water across the kitchenette.
“Okay, okay… fuck my head hurts; why did you let me sleep until the night fell damn it? However much you let me drink I’ve still got training to do Roshi!” For a moment there was silence, then the realisation began to settle in as she glanced across at the kitchen clock for confirmation of the gnawing dread in the pit of her stomach… or perhaps that too was the hangover talking. “It’s still the morning… but its dark out. Okay, I’ll bite… tell me what’s going on and fix me up the following… two raws eggs, ground peppercorns, a shot of tabasco and a gun to shoot myself, gods I feel like crap.” The old man let out a short chortle before busying themselves filling that order, sans firearm; as the woman sat at the small table and waited she could hear the winds beginning to howl outside, the idyllic paradise of Kame Island suddenly something more at home with a horror film or the Yianzabit Heights. “Long story short there’s a tsunami coming, heh.” The old man began, the woman looking up and paying sudden attention to him despite the slight swaying as she did so. “The only way this island’s being saved from it is to turn that wave aside… and to do that I need to teach you the Turtle School’s signature technique.” The man pottered over and placed a glass down next to her, something red and thick sloshing around in the bottom. “I know the EDF seems to consider the technique synonymous with heroism and I know you might doubt your worth to use it… and that’s fine, I wont’ force you to wield it in battle. But this is to protect my home, my livelihood… so I’m asking you, as a master and as a friend, to pay heed to my instruction and help me stop this wave.” The woman looked nervous as she knocked back the drink, retching as she did so and looking entirely too uncomfortable with both what she had done and what was bening asked of her. “Arley, this house won’t break the wave… it’ll wash right over us and carry on towards the islands.” The woman suddenly sat up at that… it wasn’t just the Kame House at risk, true, it was the people she met on her milk rounds, it was the farmer and the fields she had been tilling by hand for them as well, it was even the building sites she’d been helping out on and the foremen and crews who worked there.
“Fine… but only this once, only to defend.” The old man smiled brightly and began to walk towards the front door, heading out towards the howling tempest. “Excellent! Then let’s begin… there’s no time like the present when a wall of water is tearing towards you after all!”
Following him out onto the beach the woman could see the approaching wall of water rising upwards towards the stormy heavens and, for the first time in her short life, she understood the true power and terror of mother nature; discarding his shirt, staff and shell the elderly master gathered his energy, or at least that’s what she assumed he was doing, before his body seemed to bulk out, the thin and wiry old man suddenly appearing to be a far stronger, largely buff man. To his credit he wasn’t distracted when the woman gave a low wolf whistle, some things simply had to be done after all, instead speaking to her as he moved. “Gather your energy into your palms, I know you’re capable of this, we’ve talked about this in our last week of lessons. Now you bring your hands together at your side, drawing them back with your palms together… and from there…” Stepping up beside him the woman took a deep breath and tried to mimic the motion, furrowing her brow as she tried to force the energy to manifest like his was. “No no, don’t force it, believe it… you know in your heart you can do this. One’s Ki is a manifestation of your inner strength, and I know just like him how much strength you must have to be able to claim a life of your own, to make your own choices despite your origins! If you’re strong enough to choose, you’re strong enough for this Arley!” Gritting her teeth the woman would try once more, this time light forming between her palms, though it was… different, struggling it seemed against the cage of her fingers instead of staying neatly within like Roshi’s.
“Togehter now… Kame...haame.. Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!” Two beams tore forth, or rather one beam surged down the centre and struck the wave at its peak, blasting a hole within it… yet the other spread wide and rapidly, the attack described as a beam instead forming a wide cleaving wave. Roshi could only look shocked as his body reverted back to how it usually was, Arley immediately looking ashamed of herself. “I… guess it was too much to think that I could emulate it so fast…” The old man wheezed a laugh instead. “No, that was the same technique… if I had to guess it’s either a matter of weak control, which we can work on together, or your spirit asserting itself.” The woman looked at him confused, leaving the man to laugh once again. “I’ll explain more after your morning training… give that hangover time to leave you. Now, back into the house, bright, dressed and alert for your milk round in three minutes. Hop to, rabbit!”
