Personality:
Nian Gao is what could be best described as a figure of unfailing, relentless optimism and perpetual good cheer. No matter the situation she always seems to have a smile on her face, always looks to find some kind of silver lining. Of course she's not insane (probably...) so in extreme situations her good cheer might flag a little even as she struggles to find a positive way out of the situation, but for most day to day matters, she never fails to find something positive to point out, or just ignores the negatives and stays cheerful regardless!
As a result she's relentlessly friendly, tries to find the good in everyone, and more importantly tries to polish that good and make it shine! Of course, if it's a hostile environment, she will simply take them down quickly and hope that this serves as a lesson for why they need to change their ways. Of course as an undead she doesn't always have the best grasp of what is or isn't survival, but hey, they probably weren't so terrible that they have to go to hell, and if they were...eh it's probably not that bad.
She is also a great fan of dancing, festivities and just bright events like that in general, be it day or night, it's always a good time for a party!
History:
Once their was a young girl from a small town. This girl was born naturally frail and prone to illness. Despite this, her family loved her very much, but in a simple town like what they lived in, there was not much that could be done for her. Her family had to work to feed her and themselves, so she spent long hours alone, suffering in bed with her weakness and whatever illness afflicted her at the time. Despite this, during the few hours when she was relatively well, she tried to find ways to help, be it trying to sew, helping with housework or otherwise. She would even try to go into town, accompanying parent or sibling, always smiling as she spoke to the townspeople. Her family always grew worried when she got out of bed, for she did not have the stamina to walk for long, but the girl only ever smiled, no matter how she suffered, determined to find a way to help them.
One night, a strange man visited her, he was friendly and kind, and made an offer. He wanted to help her, to ease the pain in her fragile body, to make her stronger, able to withstand the vigors of life so she could experience it fully. For most it would have seemed to good to be true, but for the young girl, so long confined to her bed with so few respites, so long trying to smile for her family while they toiled away to provide for her many needs...the answer was obvious, and so she took his hand. She was spirited away for only a few hours, her family didn't even know she was gone, and the next morning? That young girl was out of bed and working hard to prepare the house before anyone was awake. Her family was astonished at the vigor that had possessed the girl, and also concerned, but her bright smile and even brighter words assuaged their worries and instead they celebrated the miracle that had possessed her.
She took to dancing, attending every special event she could. No longer was she the sickly girl with the bright smile, but quickly became known as one of the most kindhearted and helpful girls in the village. No matter the situation, she always tried to make time to help anyone who needed it, trying her hand at a dozen different crafts.
Every night, the man came back, sometimes there was a skipped night, but for the next year he visited her quite often, always taking her away to give her what had given her this stamina. Things improved, but overtime her family noticed something...worrying. Her body was diminishing, withering and looking malnourished. No matter how well she ate, no matter how much stamina and vigor she had, and they started to worry that something new was wrong with her. No matter how bright her smile was, their fears only grew, and then one night the man explained to her what was happening.
The girl was slowly dying. His methods, the medicine he had given her, it had given her stamina beyond physical means, but not actually cured her, merely let her body ignore the afflictions causing it. He had hoped that had work, good food and sunlight would combine with this to strengthen her body to where she no longer needed it. Instead, her body had simply continued to deteriorate and even faster. To the man's surprise, the girl's smile still didn't fade. Instead, she simply thanked him for the time he had given her, after all...she would have died soon regardless right? At least now she'd been able to create some truly happy memories with her family first.
Yet the man wasn't finished, he had one final offer. He would kill her, and ressurrect her, turn her into an undead, her youth preserved, her body freed forever of the shackles of frailty and disease. She would live longer than any human, death's grasp would loosen if not vanish entirely. It was an offer she accepted without hesitation, and so that night, she did not return home, her family simply finding a note saying that she had left, and that when she returned, they wouldn't have to worry about her health anymore. Her family desperately searched for her, but could find not the slightest trace, and the village started to forget about the sickly girl with the bright smile. A full year passed with no word from her, two years and even her family had at last moved on, and the third year rolled around, marking her twenty second birthday...
and still the sickly girl with the bright smile had not returned, and none knew where to look. For her coffin was in a place miles from town, a place so far that only the powerful and wise could have made the trip the man did every night in so short a time. Three long years, but it was finally time for her smile to grace the world again.
