Personality: Observant and adaptive, Zayne is usually very reserved and only speaks when spoken to. Accenting his young appearance, Zayne seems to be absent minded when he has nothing to do, staring off into space and daydreaming or simply lazing about when he has free time. He is a curious little cyborg who despite his best intentions comes off as awkward and antisocial though simply because he chooses to open up slowly. He will rarely be the first to initiate conversation with others, though when there is trouble to be had, he cannot hold himself back from helping out.
Seemingly aware of himself and the situations he can find himself in, Zayne is one who thinks before he acts, choosing the side of caution over brash action when his instincts don’t kick in. Against an unwinnable situation, he will see reason and choose to preserve himself rather than pointlessly take a beating. Zayne is an avid animal lover, he has had the opportunity to spend time with and enjoy life with different animals, dog, cats and several; more alien creatures as well. He enjoys living outdoors and off of the land where his survival is dependant on himself.
History: There is very little that Zayne remembers before waking up in complete darkness, the only sound a low humming that echoed through the metallic halls of his home. As he sat up, he felt a momentary loss of balance and nearly fell off of whatever it was he had been laying on but in a reflexive motion, brought his hand down. There was a loud crunch in that moment, one that brought Zayne back into the moment and he realized that whatever he had grabbed onto had been crushed in his hand. Moving to his feet and stumbling to the nearest wall, Zayne felt the weakness of his depleted body, his hands trailing along the cold metal before he found a switch and flipped it upward. To his surprise, Zayne had left several deep gouges into the wall where his fingers dragged through it as if it were sand.
At any other time, he would be taken aback but his body screamed for sustenance and he simply pushed on. In the reflection of the wall, Zayne could see his withered form, his body was frail and weak, his ribcage able to be seen through his skin and his cheeks having sunk in. Moving about the room, Zayne could see a strange symbol etched onto the papers that were thrown about the room before he traveled into the bowels of the underground laboratory. Every step was exhausting, Zayne wanted to just lay on the floor and leave it at that but the thought of an exit kept him going. The thought repeated over and over “Soon there’ll be light…” he mumbled over and over. Over head, lights continued to trail deeper until Zayne found what he had set his sights on, a way out and with it, hopefully some help.
With his exit came a surprise, there was a pack of dogs that had gathered along the cave, they seemed to be strays that had made the outer reaches of the cave their haven and now they were on guard at the sight of the new visitor. Malnourished, Zayne stood upright, pushing past his exhaustion and assuming a more intimidating stance, he knew he could very well end up as food, he was in no condition to fight and he did not want them to attack. The strays barked loud, standing their ground and protecting their territory and all Zayne wanted was to leave it. Going back meant the end there was only one direction for him to continue on. Stepping forward, the feral canines barred their fangs, Zayne clenched his fist as the pack kept their eyes on him, the boy moving his back to the wall so he didn’t have to worry there.
Lowering his hands, he unclenched his fist, it was obvious to him from the look in their eyes that they didn’t want to kill, they just wanted him away. With both parties keeping a close eye on one another, Zayne slowly backed out of the cave where he heard the sound of running water, the scent of the grass and dew, the warmth of the sun on his broken body. Only feet from the cave was a large reservoir that synced up with a glistening stream of clean water from the mountain range above, the entrance to the inner laboratory stretched for what seemed to be miles. Stumbling to the edge of the reservoir, Zayne shifted to his knees and dipped both hands into the water, before tilting his head back and drinking his fill. Again and again and each time, Zayne noticed the oddity to himself, it was a wonder why the dogs were unsure of him. Pausing for a moment, Zayne looked to his right hand, the backside of his hand had been ripped of skin and he could see the inner wiring and circuitry that ran through it.
He hadn’t paused to look until now, though he had noticed the difficulty in his movement, the absurd amount of strength and yet, it brought no answers. He didn’t know who he was aside from a name, though at least now, he had a chance to heal and recover completely. Shifting to his feet, Zayne inspected himself over and over, the upper arm and shoulder was exposed, its internal wiring and circuitry operating properly. With the basics taken care of, Zayne slowly healed, it was easy to live off the land by observing the pack, Zayne picked survival strategies up and managed to recuperate in time. The laboratory offered several items to aid him, armor, clothing and even weapons to which Zayne did not pass up. As he strengthened his body, Zayne also strengthened his bond with the canines, offering to share what he managed to gather, hunt or scrounge.
Sample RP:
The loud crackling of the wild fire roared as Zayne sat around with the only real family he had known, the scent of cooked meat accompanied by the pile of bones that each canine member and Zayne himself had been gnawing on. Dusk had set, the skies were beginning to darken, the light of day being invaded by the purple, pink and orange of the sun’s descent. The sound of the stream moving down along the mountain helped to soothe the mood all the more. The sound of the crickets chirping as the atmosphere began to cool quite a bit grew louder, the rest of the wilderness seemingly falling asleep with it. After a day of exploration and fulfillment, Zayne felt truly at peace, though even that did not stop him from thinking.
He didn’t remember much about his past life, he was happy to be part of a pack and to stay with them but part of him always wanted to know. Questions plagued his mind and nothing bothered him more than not being able to answer them himself. Even worse, he couldn’t enjoy the time with them, he was healthy, he was stronger than before and he had the skills to set off on his own. Still, the idea of abandoning everything to go on a journey meant leaving all of his comforts, his family and his home, he didn’t want to risk forgetting that. Zayne sat upright, thinking and thinking, battling with himself over the right decision to make.
With morning came his decision, in his own way, Zayne told each of his pack members goodbye, though promised to come back when he could. His mind was made up, whether or not he got the answers to his questions meant nothing, it wouldn’t change what he already had.
