Original Character: Ryder [Luceilia/Lucy/Lu] Face Claim: Samus Aran [She's not the pic in this app, that's an obscure image I dug up, but I have ideas for her likeness in the future.] Race: Changeling Saiyan Hybrid, No Tail, Human Appearance Racial Traits: Zenkai, Natural Power Gender: Female Age: 28 Alignment: True Neutral Stats:

{Personality (Click to Open Spoiler)} Her greatest focus at this time is on the cultivation of herself and her martial way, but years in 'the world' are not forgotten so easily. While she has an element of secluded martial artist, her old ways remain a significant part of her identity.
On the surface Ryder presents herself as a friendly person who wants to build connections with others- and she does- but it's for superficial selfish reasons. She knows full well that a person's contacts can make or break their success in the world, so she cares deeply about cultivating valuable relationships for personal gain. If it's convenient she is quick to lend aid so long as it won't cost her too much.
She's focused and determined with an iron will forged in the rank and file, but has grown to develop a greater appreciation for the little things in life as she's begun her journey. They say girls just want to have fun, even veteran soldier has a little bit of girl left in her, looking to have a good time when greater matters aren't weighing down on her.

{History (Click to Open Spoiler)}
Not all mad scientist experiments bear fruit, nor do all those that do display their potential quickly or easily.
Long ago, meteorites fell to earth carrying frozen body-parts of mysterious alien beings. One of them mysteriously similar to humans while the remaining samples differed greatly. It was only a matter of time before these fragments were discovered and their secrets put to work for the greed of man.
Armed with these unidentified reservoirs of alien DNA, scientists got to work extracting them and combining them with the fetuses of women who couldn’t turn them down- whether deathrow inmates hoping to at least grant their child an opportunity in life or those in desperate poverty willing to sell anything to crawl up from rock bottom.
Like any such experiment, the failures were many. Thousands of corpses piled up as the experiments continued. Those few survivors born with a purely human appearance were placed into military homes, given the opportunity to grow up in a relatively normal environment under the guidance of loyalists who would instill discipline in the children and guide them to their destiny.
Luceilia was born a quiet girl, full of life and curiosity but with a shyness to her that endeared her to her [adoptive] elders.
Such a nature was not to remain, however. The child was adopted into a family with a long, long line of soldiers. Stretching all the way back to the days before monsters such as King Piccolo ever walked the earth. As with all the her forebears, Lucy was brought up to be a soldier in the classic style of Special Forces.
She was showered with love, but that love was tempered with the toughness of iron. Physical conditioning, wilderness and urban survival skills, stealth and communications, basic maths and sciences- Lucy would not want for things to do. Her childhood was filled with things to learn and skills to cultivate. From sunrise to sunset, five days a week she worked hard to live up to her family’s expectations…. Until she cracked.
Fourteen years old and filled with resentment the girl ran away from home with an ample supply of funds she’d been saving for years. For two years Luceilia- under the alias Ryder- lived the party life, roaming from town to town, party to party, sparing nothing in her quest for enjoyment and satisfaction- niether finances, her innocence nor her reputation.
Two years of debauchery all came crashing to an end when she woke up in a hospital one day, only to find herself committed for Alcohol Poisoning and a Coke overdose. Things went from bad to worse as the doctors explained she had also contracted Chlamydia, but was already being treated for it. Luckily for her, the disease was caught early and she suffered no lasting harm.
Weary of her wild lifestyle, the young woman decided it was time to grow up and follow the path that had been laid out for her and embrace the Budo. Rather than return home and face the music, Ryder enlisted in Earth’s Army at the age of 16.
Though she’d grown more voluptuous during her two years of adventure, the physical fitness foundation she’d built through her life never faded. Without any troubles, Ryder sailed through basic training and went on to pursue and eventually acquire a position in the Special Forces.
Time seemed to slip away in the military, the structure and order made life simple. Though that simplicity would not last forever. Years after enlisting Ryder found her world rocked once more as she uncovered traces of her origins, stumbling onto documents identifying the program that created her and the locations of her 'siblings.'
Disgruntled with life’s ebb and flow once more, the woman filed for an honorable discharge - a process made easy enough by her relative weakness. Despite her origins she proved nothing more than a good soldier- and made her way into the wilderness to get away from it all and maybe… just maybe… find her own path.

{Sample RP (Click to Open Spoiler)}
Step, step, step. One footfall after another sounded out in the desolate wilderness as Ryder trudged onwards. This was not the first time the woman walked away from her responsibilities, walked away from the obligations that held her bound to the world around her. But this time, things were different.
No longer was she fleeing for freedom’s sake, running away just to get away. No, this time her flight carried with her a deeper purpose, to seek a path of her own creation and find the true self that lay within.
~I've left the military behind me and have the whole wide world is ahead of me. There’s plenty of resources in the bamboo forest and- more importantly- plenty of peace and quiet. Thinking back, some of my happiest moments were during wilderness exercises where it was just me and the woods.~
These thoughts carried Ryder forward with greater purpose as she made her way towards her new home, a place for peaceful pondering…..
*************
… She took things slow, neither using a vehicle nor a forced-march type pace but thinking and observing quietly along the way. Never before had this woman ‘taken the time to stop and smell the flowers.’ There was something… soothing and enlightening about the process- of letting go of the rush of life, no haste no hustle, just letting the current carry her.
~Almost out of food, it’s a good thing I packed more than I thought I’d need~ thought Ryder as she opened the large hiking backpack she’d worn all along. ~I can already see the Bamboo Forest in the distance, another day or two and I should arrive. Game and wild vegetables are abundant there, no need to stress myself over supplies.~
With limited funds to her name, the last thing Ryder wanted was to have to head into town to stock up on consumables like food or toiletries…..
**************
...Time passed simply and quietly, and soon the soldier turned sojourner made her way into the Bamboo woods with a deflated pack that held naught but a bit of spare clothing and a few basic tools.
~This time of year I don’t particularly need a shelter. I’ve been doing without one for the past month I’ve been walking, a few more days won’t hurt. Water’s top priority, then food and THEN I’ll construct my new home.~
Ryder put her introspection on hold for the time being, collecting sturdy-yet-flexible vines whilst keeping her eyes peeled for a dense and sturdy looking clump of bamboo.
~This one’ll work~ Dropping her pack and loosely wrapping her vines around her neck, Ryder began to climb the clump. By lashing them together every 3-4 meters with the vines, she ensured they retained all the necessary strength to support her weight even as she ascended towards the tips.
The rustling sounds of leaves in the wind could be heard as Ryder’s head poked above the canopy, exposing a breathtaking view of green foliage against the blue sky to her vision.
~I can’t believe I never grasped the beauty all around me during past training missions. It was always all duty and all business, I took everything so seriously I never saw the forest for the bamboo. Always zoomed in on the specific and lost track of the big picture.~
Even amidst her brief and minor enlightenment, the woman carefully scanned the forest looking for gaps in the bamboo that would indicate the presence of a sizable body of water.
~That one, that’s the one I want. That gap abuts a significant change in elevation. My money says I’m looking at a waterfall into a pond or small lake.~ Destination selected, Ryder carefully rotated around the clump until her body faced her chosen direction before smoothly sliding back down into the forest below.
With her bearings set, it was only a matter of time before Ryder neared her destination. The sound of falling water reached her ears before she reached the clearing. Smiling confidently the woman strode forward until she found herself breaking through into the open. Sunlight caressed her face once more as Ryder took scope of the place that would be her new home.
A very faint mist could be seen over the face of the pond, itself both recipient of a large stream’s ten meter waterfall and source of another stream heading downhill. The air was cool and fresh, with abundant animal tracks leading up to the ponds edge.
~This will do just fine, it’s time to get to work.~ Dropping her pack once more, Ryder pulled out the tools she had brought, leaving behind a special book in the bottom of her pack…
That first shelter was a simple one, a basic lean-to with a bamboo frame and thatch roof. Before long, the smell of roast pig could be smelled wafting from a spit suspended over a fire pit.
With her basic needs in place, Ryder cozied herself up next to the fire, sat down in the lotus position and began to meditate.
“If I’m going to be forging my own path, it’s about time I sought out the power to protect that path. Never again do I want to find myself helpless in the face of an opposing force, nor do I want to be forever relegated to serving the strong.
“I will cultivate my own strength.”
