Personality:
Conniving, devious, sadistical, brutal, all words that can be used to describe the entity masquerading as Sadal, the entity truly known as Qiongqi. Of course, there’s a bit more to it than that, from the basic level he lacks all empathy, for any sapient, mortal species this would be the result of some great trauma growing up or a fundamental problem in the wiring of the brain. Yet, Qiongqi likes to maintain that it is only natural that a being such as him cares as much about the harm to others, as those others care about the harm done to the livestock slaughtered for their meat. Sometimes he’ll take it one step further and even claim that he’s better than them, because at least he’s not so savage as to lock them in factories, or raise them deliberately to be butchered, his prey is free range at least. He’s better than mortals, and it’s entirely up for debate whether he actually believes this.
Qiongqi is a creature of fluid believes and non-existent morals. Generally speaking what he ‘believes’ at any given time is whatever is most convenient, amusing, or likely to anger his opposition. The thing he cares the most about is inflicting pain on others, physical, emotional, it doesn’t really matter, it’s the thing he enjoys most. Whether by helping to maintain the status quo of a harsh, tyrannical regime, or destabilizing previously safe communities and burning them to the ground. The only virtue he maintains is patience, for the prize is all the sweeter when gratification is put off to ensure a healthy harvest.
Other than the satisfaction he gets from inflicting suffering on others, Qiongqi likes eggs, 100% pure dark chocolate, black coffee, and long walks on a blood-soaked beach.
History:
The tale of Qiongqi far predates the tale of Sadal. Qiongqi is an ancient entity, a being from the distant past of the universe predating multiple civilizations from across the galaxies. No one’s really sure of his origins, in fact very few individuals have any idea that he exists at all, and no one has a complete collection of his history. The many tales that are technically his doing range the gamut. Great tyrants risen up from seemingly nowhere, bringing cruel, murderous regimes to fruition, and then vanishing. Prosperous civilizations undermined by bizarre and twisted radical elements that seemed to completely fall apart when the work was done. Great henchmen, bizarrely loyal and twisted warriors serving truly evil causes, that vanished inexplicably leaving the dark leaders they served without key defenders, and on and on and on.
It’s such a disparate collection of events, and so ubiquitous it would be impossible to race all of them, especially considering the time span. It doesn’t help that one would have to factor in genuine cases of just bad things happening to good people and vice versa. The kinds of people that Qiongqi has pretended to be sometimes just genuinely exist and that makes the task all that harder. The closest one can get to a selection of core records are specific events that share the sighting of a black, three headed wolf like entity that left naught but destruction in its wake, or tales of serpentine creatures made of pure energy wreaking havoc across an area.
The most important thing to note is Qiongqi’s long status as a body snatcher, grabbing the bodies of those desperate enough to reach out to any nameless god listening, their souls consumed and devoured, and the mad god inhabiting their flesh and twisting it to suit his own needs and preferences. It is onto this stage that Sadal finally steps into the picture, over two million years after Qiongqi first got started.
Sadal was a businessman, he grew up to a wealthy family, made careful connections, got himself a good education and got himself involved with a powerful corporation known for its research and control over various patents controlling life support on ships by the name of ‘Breath of Life Incorporated.’ Bit of a tacky name but vital and important. He spent years working his way through the ranks, dealing with the usual corporate nonsense but it’s not so nonsensical when you’re this far up the ladder. Unfortunately, the upper rungs of corporate work can sometimes be cutthroat, and those at the top are all too willing to kick down those a few rungs down to cover up their own mistakes.
Have a few accidents, get unwittingly wrapped up into a major scandal, and next thing you know, you’re shipped off to some backwater world out of the way to take the blame. For Sadal he wasn’t just shuffled off to a backwater world but outright sent to a planet undergoing a civil war, with the goal being to sell the company products to both sides, a dangerous prospect that could get him executed, tortured and all manner of frightful things.
Naturally he started on a downward spiral, doing everything he could, pulling every connection he had, all to get out of this assignment. It didn’t work, and there he went, the stress of both playing two sides and just being in a war torn planet driving him to drink, slowly losing his grip on reality until of course, he got caught. A group of soldiers beat him silly, having cottoned on but lacking direct proof, they tossed him into a set of catacombs to leave him for dead. He got drunk, wandered where he wasn’t supposed to, took a fall and slowly died alone and unloved. In truth he was beaten within an inch of his life and then tossed down there, crawling through musty hallways.
By simple luck he found an old statue commemorating a past life of Qiongqi, the mad god between ‘lives’ at the moment, drifting in the strange realm he called home when he was not active. By chance, he heard the alien begging for another chance, for vengeance and well...he supposed it’d been a few centuries, why not have some more fun?
What walked back out of those catacombs had the face of Sadal but the hair was a different color, the skin weirdly pale for a Brenchian. It was all wrong, so very wrong, and wasn’t Breath of Life so surprised to hear that not only had he survived a mysterious complete governmental collapse of both sides, but that he was going to need a new assignment now that there were no more customers, and so..they sent him somewhere else to try and get rid of him.
To a little planet called Hera.
