Personality:
Broken Stars, as he can be called in short, is an exemplar among his people. He takes great pride in his ability to speak and communicate, and as such, he will rarely avoid an opportunity to talk. In fact, his most preferred time to speak is during a fight, for what is a battle if not a test of wills and belief as well? Communication is everything, and he prizes the ability to speak, to give voice to one’s thoughts and to do so eloquently as one of the most important features of being an individual, of being a person. He is a fan of poetry, of reading the works of others, and hearing what others have to say, and has a distaste for those who prefer silence, even if he will outwardly pretend to respect it.
He maintains that respectful, polite demeanour in almost all situations. Whether one is a bitter enemy or a trusted friend, his behavior almost doesn’t change. Just because someone is the scum of the Earth does not mean he must compromise himself to address them. Instead, he will treat them better than they are and they will be shamed in the act. Another core tenet is that discipline is all. One must stand firm behind their views and beliefs, one who is dissuaded or changed too easily is not an individual, but a slavish follower desperate for a hive to tell them what to do.
History:
Broken Stars people is a strange one even by the broad standards of a galactic society. When they were first discovered by the PTO they couldn’t immediately tell that his species were truly sapient, although this may also be attributable to shallow and insufficient scouting methods. Part of this was also due to the language they use, completely unpronounceable by most, and most are also incapable of actually distinguishing the words from each other. A series of clicks, cricket like chirps and buzzes that defy the comprehension of most other intelligent species. This makes translating the language extremely difficult and even obtuse as some words have to be literally broken down into their component parts. Hence, the name of this species is practically never used. Their name, when put into actual Galactic Common is: Children of the Moon, Triumphant Over Heaven. Instead, they are called Caradians, named for their planet, Carad, as named by the first to survey it. A name they staunchly refuse.
7 Stars Broken, Falling From Heaven, was born before his people had ever spread out to the stars, when he was born, they were still alone on their world, their sweeping cities, like great, massive hives spread out, conquering their world in its entirely, with discussions of moving to perhaps one of the planet’s moons. He was studying as a scholar when the PTO arrived, a small detachment with the simple goal of wiping out all life on the planet so it could be resold, their usual business. What they met with was far heavier resistance than they might have expected, for the Children of the Moon were a species with many tricks, as well as heroes. Several such heroes destroyed the PTO invaders, although at great cost to their number, leaving only two survivors and many dead. However, this also came with opportunity.
They had access to their ship, their armor, their scouters, and their physiology. One of the reasons the Children of the Moon were not necessarily viewed as sapient was because their forms were as far from ‘humanoid’ or ‘anthropomorphic’ as could be. The Children’s unique physiology allows them to reshape their bodies almost as they please, to truly fantastical or extremely practical forms. The invaders might never have even realized the menagerie they faced were even all of one singular species. With the defeat of these aliens came the study of the anthropomorphic form, and to some level, an adoption of it, adoption and then heavy alterations. Debates raged over its use, but some adopted it simply as a symbol. One of the two survivors, now bearing the name Two Crowns in Heaven, Taken in Conquest did the same and began two things, working to improve his own power, and taking in many disciples and apprentices to train and raise and foster growth and power. Now the Children had a metric for how terrible the powers outside their planet were, and sought to match them. Broken Stars, or as he was known then, Forty Seven Pens Black, Inscribing upon the Soul, was one such disciple.
He took on a humanoid form, reshaping his chitin and carapace, he began studying, and was a diligent and capable pupil. One might even say he had found his true calling, and his previous scholarly pursuits became hobbies instead. The Children of the Moon prepared and grew and advanced, preparing their own ships, and the PTO eventually got around to responding to the lost squadron at Carad. When that response came...it was far worse than the Children were prepared for. It wasn’t that the PTO had sent more, although they had. Most of their number were weak, trivially easy for the improved military of the Children to combat, the problem was but three warriors that came with this crew, wielding power beyond what the Children had ever expected. A desperate struggle began, a pitched battle that saw them giving ground. The two heroes and the disciples of Two Crowns in Heaven battling, taking great injury and loss.
In the end, the Children did win once again, but the costs this time were...even worse. Their planet was ruined. The battle had seen irreparable damage done to the planet’s core, its rotation had out and out halted, the continents cracked. Their planet was doomed, and the two great heroes had died. Broken Stars was one of the Children to have proven himself, and this was when he was given his new name. Seven Stars Broken, Falling from Heaven. Things had to move quickly, they couldn’t afford to delay, and in no time, Seven Stars Broken was given his own ship, and a small crew. They were one of several being sent out for one purpose.
Find a new homeworld that the Children could move to. No matter how it might pain them, saving their world was beyond their power, and a new home must be found. Thus, Broken Stars has set his eyes to the galaxy, he will not fail his people. On his shoulders rests the legacy of heroes and the history of his people. He cannot simply hope the other scouts will succeed should he fail, for he will not fail.
