Personality: Once a energetic and cheerful teenage girl who worked towards her father's praise, since her time and in space, Mizuna has grown into an embittered young woman who uses snark and sarcasm as her default method of communication. She's still able to express surface level cheer, but her smile is nowhere near as warm as it was when she wore her hair in a braid and swung around a blade of fire.
The only fire Mizuna has these days is the blazing furnace of internalized rage. The fierce loyalty to those close to her has continued from her teenage years and is in part the driving force behind her current quest of vengeance. Nourishment through food and drink is still a leading priority for Mizuna. Just because she's a brooding woman obsessed with revenge, doesn't meant she won't raid someone's fridge and clean them out for the week, or fight someone for the sake of pursuing combat for the sake of combat; she's still at least one half Saiyan.
History: Mizuna was born into what seemed to be a run of the mill family of martial artists. For the life of her, Mizuna could never understand why her father was such a strict man. There were certainly times where she was praised and those moments felt great, but there were just as many times where she received a severe beat down in the training facilities.
It was usually when she returned home either as only the second best in a school-funded tournament or some other contest that tested her mettle as a martial artist. Her mother was just as demanding and Mizuna often struggled to live up to both of their demands. When she succeeded in something and got to bask in their proud smiles and warmth, it was the greatest high, but on the flip side of that was the sting of knowing their scornful faces when she fell short.
Following her mother's disappearance, she was brought in on a suspicion she'd had about how quickly she improved her skills and learned to read into her opponents. She was never beaten more than once by the same opponent and there was always a yearning to meet larger challenges. That wasn't normal for girls her age, as far as she was aware. Her father gave her the missing piece to that puzzle by telling her that she was part of a race of (mostly) proud warriors who lived for battle.
It also came with the news that the two of them would be taking an extended vacation - which was honestly more of a training trip - to the at the time home world of the Saiyan people, Planet Vegeta. At the time, she'd been wide eyed with excitement and curious wonder at what kind of people she'd meet there.
Fast forward a few years and she's had more than her fair share of encounters with two camps of Saiyans. One camp bent over backwards to kiss the King's ass. Half-Breeds received no love with them and to get even a silver of respect, she'd needed to kick their asses. It hadn't been easy, but she earned a token of respect.
The other camp were those who openly welcomed anyone strong with Saiyan blood. It was from the latter camp that Mizuna managed to make some friends. Two older female women who fawned over her fairly frequently. Whenever she wasn't getting up to mischief with the two Saiyan women, she took to sparring with her father until one day, he wasn't there to spar with her, or for her to deploy on a mission with.
The news came in as a small shock to her that he'd been offed by a group of anti-Saiyan pirates. It didn't affect her nearly as much as she would have thought hearing her father had died. He'd gone down as a Saiyan, at least. Despite the silver lining of dying a Saiyan's death, there was still the matter of avenging him, of course, which lead her down various events that would lead up to her losing her two role models. It wasn't in battle she lost them, but chained to a wall inside some sketchy lab setup. Someone had ambushed the group and Mizuna, who managed to burn through her restraints while her guards weren't looking, swore bloody vengeance on the facility.
Compared to what the galaxy at large had to offer, she was no where near ready to take on her guards, so she slipped out a backdoor route. Having to sneak away stung her a lot harder than losing a straight-up fight ever did. It also stung her that she'd had to go back on her word - she'd promised those two women that she would never turn her back on them, but on that night, she did exactly that.
Eight years have passed since that night. She's no closer to tracking down the aliens she ran away from on that night and for some reason, Planet Vegeta seems to have been almost completely vacated. With no other place to return to, Mizuna made her way back home to Earth and boy was it awkward setting foot back on Earth. A couple of places look a little worse for wear and there's odd reports on radio stations about some bug-like creature vanished by a gathering of brave warriors.
It appeared she had quite a bit of catching up to do. There was also the message broadcasted over her father's old scouter. It bared investigating, of course, but she had other things to do before that, like catch up on her training.
