Personality:
Polarus is a typically passive Changeling, preferring to avoid fights if he can. Thoughts of conquering and killing never really grabbed him. He’d much rather be on missions to explore other planets and study the cultures on them. He finds other alien species to be fascinating, and hopes to one day be free of the influence of the P.T.O. so that he can roam the stars for as long as he pleases. When he does have to fight, he is more about being tactical than resorting to brute force. He prefers to try and outthink his opponent and throw them off their game every chance he has; of course, he does know when he has to turn tail and run. He is very aware of his weakness, and though he is certainly a pacifist, he does aim to get stronger so he can properly protect himself.
History:
Polarus was the younger brother of another Changeling, both of whom were sent off to be trained for the P.T.O. at young ages. It was in this setting that the two grew up together. His elder brother, though shorter, was much stronger than him and while Polarus became a brilliant tactician, his brother was sought after to be the muscle in many groups. Though their skill set was vastly different, the two brothers got along quite well. Polarus admired his elder brother’s power and hoped to one day match him. His elder brother, on the other hand, admired his mind and was very protective of him.
Soon, however, the pair were sent off to different missions with different teams. Fortunately for Polarus, his mission was merely a scouting one; all he had to do was spend a great deal of time studying the flora and fauna of an unexplored planet, as well as seeing if there were any civilizations there. Because of his desire to be thorough, he and his team spent a few weeks on the planet, determining it to be unoccupied by a civilized species and rich with natural resources. When he returned, he was greeted with tragic news. His brother had been slain on his mission.
On its own, the situation was terrible and Polarus was beyond distressed. But there was something…suspicious about how his brother met his end. He was the only one among his team to die. The others on his team didn’t even appear to be wounded. Polarus had a very good idea about what happened to his brother, but he couldn’t do anything. The warrior groups like theirs were held in higher regard than a research team, and the P.T.O. valued strength above all. If he opened his mouth to voice his suspicions, he’d no doubt be killed for his insolence. With this in mind, Polarus has since kept up a regular training regimen, trying to gather more strength so that he could either escape the P.T.O.’s influence or avenge his brother’s murder.
Sample RP:
Most jobs took Polarus off-world. As such, he’d often have to partner up with others, usually with someone that had a decent-sized ship to haul them off. This time…things were a little different. There were odd reports of an…amorphous shape slithering in and out of shadows in the bigger cities on Frieza I. Sometimes, people described it as a slime, others said it looked like a melting figure. Either way, it moved quickly, avoiding direct contact with anyone. It didn’t seem to do any harm, really…it hadn’t destroyed anything, hurt anyone…but it didn’t matter. It was unsettling enough that people wanted it either captured or destroyed.
Truthfully, it seemed like an easy enough job. The reward was…meager. That was probably why no one else seemed interested in picking it up. But to Polarus…money was money, and his supply was down. He had contacted the source of the bounty, letting them know that he would take care of it. Within an hour, he was searching the back alleys of a large city. His crimson eyes scanned the area as he listened intently. As expected, he couldn’t hear anything. Frowning a bit, he reached his hand up to the button on his scouter. The blue lens flared to life as it searched for an energy signature.
“Where are you…?” he mumbled aloud.
A few things showed up, but nothing out of the ordinary. The occasional vermin, a couple of people in the middle of a shady deal…he was spotted by them, but he wasn’t concerned. He may not have ranked high in the P.T.O.—hell, he wasn’t on anyone’s radar, really—but most civvies knew not to bother someone with a scouter…much less someone of the dreaded Emperor’s race. Suddenly, there was a loud blip on the scouter that caught his attention. A small energy signature revealed itself around the corner of a building, but an outline of the figure couldn’t be made. That was to be expected, of course…his scouter was old and not in great shape. Still, it was something.
Expecting to find a larger animal, or maybe even another shady figure…Polarus was stunned to see a strange, lavender-colored blob. He ducked behind the corner again, watching it. It wasn’t really moving. Instead, it simply undulated beneath a poster. It almost looked like it was…studying the image on the poster. Curious, he Polarus flicked his eyes up to the image: it was a poster of some performer at a club. Why was this…thing looking at the image? He felt his blood run cold as something began to rise from the blob…now, the blob itself was…giving itself shape? Slowly but surely, the form shaped into a sturdy, feminine body. Antennae formed on top of its head, mimicking the hairstyle of the performer on the poster. At first, the body appeared bare, but after the light purple flesh ripple again, clothing appeared on its body, again resembling the figure’s attire on the poster.
Polarus’ jaw dropped as he watched the creature stretch its newly grown limbs as though it had just woken up from a deep sleep. He nearly jumped out of his skin as he heard his scouter beep loudly, registering the creature’s energy level. The creature’s head quickly swiveled around, revealing eyes that were black with light blue irises, no nose, and a stern-looking mouth. He didn’t bother to hide, now. It saw him. Trying to hide his nervousness, he emerged from around the corner.
“Y-you’re trespassing on this planet,” he called out, slowly steadying his voice as he stared the alien creature down. “State your business, or I will be forced to eradicate you.”
The creature didn’t speak…but instead a big, menacing grin formed on its face as its eyes widened. This had gone from unsettling to frightening. He couldn’t register a particularly strong power level from the creature…but it clearly called his bluff. He tried to steel himself as he aimed his right hand to the creature.
“You have to the count of--!!”
The creature cut him off as it launched itself at him, roaring a deranged battle cry.
